On the morning of Saturday, April 12, 2025, at K (HFH), the “Comprehensive Stroke Management” workshop took place successfully, drawing the interest and active engagement of over 100 participants. The event addressed a topic of vital importance to public health by focusing on the full spectrum of stroke care, from risk prevention and emergency response to rehabilitation and secondary prevention.
Workshop Highlights:
The workshop began with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Magnus Ericsson, Deputy General Director of HFH, who emphasized the hospital’s mission to raise community awareness and empower individuals to take proactive measures in preventing serious conditions such as stroke.
Dr. Sabrina Stefanizzi, Neurologist and Coordinator of the Prevention Centre of Cardio-Vascular Diseases, HFH, introduced the center’s multidisciplinary team, which includes specialists in neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, pneumology, and general and family medicine. As a HFH initiative, the center brings together top experts to offer integrated, comprehensive care for patients across related medical fields.
Expert Presentations:
Dr. Nguyen Van Mui – Endocrinologist, highlighted the strong link between diabetes and stroke, stressing the importance of:
- Managing major risk factors such as blood glucose, lipid levels, and blood pressure is vital for stroke prevention.
- Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment to reduce vascular complications, which are major contributors to stroke risk in diabetic patients.
Dr. Sabrina Stefanizzi – Neurologist, shared in-depth knowledge on:
- Early warning signs of stroke, including Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs).
- The pathophysiology of stroke and immediate response protocols.
- Real clinical cases were discussed to provide attendees with practical, life-saving knowledge.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Dung – Specialist in Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation, presented:
- Common post-stroke impairments: motor dysfunction, speech disorders (aphasia), dysphagia, cognitive deficits, and more.
- The benefits and stages of neurological rehabilitation, key principles of neuroplasticity, and factors influencing recovery outcomes.
- She emphasized that structured care and neuropsychological-based rehabilitation are key determinants of successful recovery.
In the final session, Dr. Sabrina Stefanizzi addressed strategies for preventing recurrent strokes, presenting two tiers of cardiovascular prevention:
- Primary prevention: For the general population, aiming to reduce the onset of stroke and other vascular events through lifestyle modification and risk factor control.
- Secondary prevention: For patients with a history of stroke, focusing on long-term management of underlying conditions to prevent recurrence.
Dr. Stefanizzi also introduced digital tools and health applications that can help individuals monitor and manage their personal stroke risk factors.
Interactive Q&A and Audience Reflections:
The workshop included a dynamic Q&A session, where attendees shared their personal concerns and medical questions regarding stroke, in addition to a large number of queries submitted before the event. The high level of engagement underscored a strong public interest in this critical health issue.
One participant, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha (61 years old, from K), shared: “The workshop provided extremely valuable information, especially regarding early stroke recognition and timely response, which could truly save lives.”
At the end of the workshop, participants received useful materials, including a specially designed guide of basic neurorehabilitation exercises for post-stroke recovery, compiled by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Medicine at K.
The enthusiastic response from attendees is a powerful motivation for HFH to continue organizing impactful workshop. We are committed to promoting health literacy, disease prevention, and improving quality of life for our patients and the broader community.
