At the recent scientific conference “Advances in Early Cancer Diagnosis and ESD Techniques” organized by the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on April 15, local and international doctors and specialists engaged in in-depth discussions on this topic.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Duat, Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Department, K����, served as the Chair of the event, leading the professional discussion sessions with the participation of endoscopy specialists from the 108 Military Central Hospital, National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Professor Koiuchi Nonaka (Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Japan), and other major hospitals.

During the event, doctors shared recommendations on minimizing the risk of missing lesions and improving the accuracy of early-stage gastric cancer diagnosis during endoscopy. The endoscopist’s experience and observation skills are decisive factors. Doctors must perform a thorough, systematic endoscopy, carefully inspecting hard-to-access areas and paying attention to abnormalities in color, smoothness, and the morphology of the mucosal surface.

Additionally, combining precise, well-positioned biopsies performed with the correct technique enables the early identification of abnormalities even when lesion images are unclear.
The conference also presented several real clinical cases and highlighted the application of NBI endoscopy in the early detection of gastric cancer — assisting endoscopists in accurately identifying difficult-to-detect lesions at very early stages that could easily be missed by conventional endoscopy.
