When open surgery must be performed, advances in technology and equipment have enabled surgeons to be more accurate and precise while operating. Surgery can also now be less invasive and therefore more efficient, leading to faster recovery. Less invasive surgical procedures such as laparoscopy (keyhole surgery), or lithoscopy (shock wave therapy, in the case of kidney stones), have lightened the burden on patients, both during and after, undergoing surgery.

K����’s Operating Theatre holds the highest Western-standards in equipment and hygiene, allowing open, less-invasive, and non-invasive surgeries, to all be performed by its internationally-trained team of surgical specialists. HFH’s OT is ready and available 24/7 thanks to its size and technological capability.

Internationally-trained surgeon at K����, Dr. Cao Manh Lieu says:

“The Operating Theatre at K���� allows us to treat patients quickly and under the most hygienic conditions possible. For orthopaedic and traumatic surgery this allows us to minimise the risk of complications during and after procedures. “The architecture of the operating theatre has been designed to allow us to always move forwards, hygienically speaking. In other words, from the dirtiest to the cleanest area. This concept of progressive sepsis is an essential bulwark against infection in the operating theatre, from outside the operating theatre to the operating table.

Each operating theatre is equipped with an overpressure system. The air in the operating theatre is expelled and does not allow any unclean air enter the room.

The area where the patient is operated on is ‘hyper clean’. Infection checks (bacterial controls by infection control department) are carried out every month to guarantee patient safety.

Every effort is made to ensure patient safety in the operating theatre.”

There are two main areas:

• The first surgical area comprises six operating rooms; 2 hyperaseptic rooms for neurosurgery and orthopedics, 4 aseptic rooms for conventional surgery, including one reserved for cesarean-sections. The adjacent recovery room with 12 beds provides for the post-operative monitoring, care and pain management of our patients after surgery before they are transferred back to the ward or day care area. A dedicated team of anesthetists and highly skilled nurses ensures all our patients are provided with best quality care and made as comfortable as possible.
• The second area of the OT is dedicated to endoscopy and comprises of 3 operating rooms, 2 of which are dedicated to digestive and pneumological endoscopy and the final one for cardiovascular interventions. HFH’s dedicated 5 bed recovery room ensures immediate post-operative vital monitoring and patient care.

An example of HFH’s dedication to remaining the technological leader in healthcare in Vietnam is its 2024 addition of an advanced ablation therapy system, the Abbott EnSite X EP - the first 3D cardiac mapping system of its kind in Vietnam – which offers a modern solution to permanently treat dangerous arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation

Patients undergo neurosurgical procedures using specialist equipment such as neuronavigation and the state-of-the-art Carl Zeiss Kinevo 900 surgical microscope, which provides clear, magnified images to help surgeons identify, treat and cure problems effectively.

HFH’s team of anesthetists and nurses are available round the clock and seven days a week to provide for all levels of patient care before, during and after a surgery or procedure.

Well-organized multimodal post-op pain management and Enhanced Recovery After Surgeries strategy allow surgical patients to have less, or be free from, pain and a quicker post-operative recovery. Multidisciplinary coordination with the Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Medicine Department ensures the most effective care pathway for each patient post-surgery, too.

HFH’s OT applies the highest hygiene and infection prevention and control standards which are based on the most stringent international protocols. The Central Sterilization Unit works to support our OT and ensures best international practices in sterilization, disinfection and processing of all instruments and materials utilized during procedures maximizing patient safety and protection and treatment outcomes, according to the highest international standards. This includes the use of French aseptic solution for instruments.
